May Management Focus: Refresh Rules & Communication
May is a smart time for community associations to revisit rules, policies, and how they’re communicated. With seasonal residents transitioning out and summer approaching, it’s an opportunity to clarify expectations around parking, amenities, short-term guests, and summer maintenance schedules. Instead of simply resending long documents, consider creating quick-reference guides or friendly reminders that are easy for residents to digest. This is also a good moment to evaluate communication channels—are emails being opened, are bulletin boards up to date, and is there a need for text alerts or a resident portal refresh? Clear, consistent communication now can prevent misunderstandings during the quieter (but often less supervised) summer months.
Prepare for summer by adding to your garden!
While making additions to your garden, also keep in mind that there will be an increase in insect populations due to increased rain water. If you want to make some additions to your garden, you can visit a botanical nursery and assess your options. Warmer temperatures and increased rain water are coming, as the dry season is reaching its end. Keep an eye on your garden as this change in season may affect your plants. May is also a great month to plant tropical trees, since they will flower well.
As always, remember to install your sod green side up!May Social Spark: Ease Into Summer Connections
With temperatures rising and schedules shifting, May is ideal for relaxed, early-evening gatherings that help maintain community engagement. Consider hosting a “Sunset Social” with light refreshments or a casual poolside meet-and-greet before summer travel and heat impact attendance. This is also a great time to recognize volunteers or committee members with a small appreciation event before many residents leave for extended vacations. Keep events קצר and flexible—drop-in style works well this time of year—and focus on fostering easy, natural interactions that carry into the quieter summer months.
